Seeking Private Donations in Florida? Make Sure you are Registered!

The Florida Solicitation of Contributions Act requires that organizations in the State that solicits donations must register with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services ("FDACS") prior to engaging in solicitation activities. This applies to charitable organizations such as charter schools, PTA's/PTO's, and private schools. Such organizations cannot accept donations until their registration is approved and they have received a certificate number from FDACS. The registration must be renewed annually and costs between $10 and $400, depending on the preceding fiscal year's contributions. The penalty for failing to renew the registration is $25 for each month or part of a month after the expiration date, so make sure your charter school, PTA/PTO or private school is in compliance!
